About Goldsboro

Goldsboro, North Carolina has a population of 38,000. The town was founded in 1787, and incorporated in 1847. The city is located in North Carolina's coastal area and on the south is bordered by the Neuse River and on the east by the Little River. Goldsboro is home to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base which ws built in 1942. The Oheb Shalom synagogue is one of fewer than 100 and 19 century synagogues in the United States. It is also the second oldest synagogue in the state. The Goldsboro golf course was originally built in 1941, and renovated in 1999. Herman Park features tennis courts, picnic shelters, a miniature train, a recreational center, goldfish pond, fountain, children's playground, gazebo, and a turn-of-the-century park house. The Waynesborough Historical Village includes original buildings from various time periods. There is a medical office, a law office, a one-room school, , a Quaker meeting house, and a family home in this "reconstructed" village. The Cliffs of Neuse State Park runs along the banks of the Neuse river and has a swimming area, fishing areas, picnic areas, and nature museum, and several hiking trails. The cliffs offer a stunning view and rise 90 feet above the river. Goldsboro has a humid subtropical climate. Goldsboro grew because it's impotance as a railroad junction and the significant role that the town played in te Civil War. Goldsboro has continued to grow and is now home to a large amount of schools, and two television staions. There are also four radio stations located in town.
